Minister's message
by Kim
Its cold outside. Very cold. As I write
this, it is the coldest day of the year. I put on my warmest clothes and throw
another blanket on myself. Hot chocolate to quicken the warming process. And
then I take a minute to thank God I am inside, and that I have extra items to
keep me warm. I pray for the homeless and their struggle to find a warm place
for the night while they try to find ways to survive during the day. I think of
those that rely on the charity of others for a hot meal. I pray for those trying
to make ends meet, that they have the resources to pay for the higher heat bill.
I also pray for the hardy who choose to be outside as sidewalk counselors for
women considering abortion or who march for justice on the anniversary of Roe v.
Wade.
St. Francis wasnt shy about giving away
his cloak to someone he thought needy. I am willing to bet that if those of
means all donated one item of quality (or its
equivalent in cash), we would make a significant dent in the disparity of those
struggling to survive.
We see the struggles throughout the
world, especially Darfur in Sudan. Our region prayed the fourth week in January.
I believe prayer and public pressure resulted in Sudan not getting the African
Leadership position. The countries of Africa have sent Sudan a strong message.
Our region will participate again in July. Individual prayer is strongly
encouraged to end the violence and starvation affecting the people of Darfur.
As we come upon Lent, let us prayerfully
consider how we can make a difference for those who need our help. Our
Fraternity will be hosting the soup supper at St. Bridgets on March 23. Invite
someone and lets share Gods bounty. |
