News from Browns Valley

The forming fraternity of St. Anthony in Browns Valley, MN, met on Sunday, May 4, 2008. One of the major items covered was the hashing out of a Mission Statement for our Fraternity. The Council presented a "rough" draft, asking for input before making it permanent. The end result is as follows:

"We The Secular Franciscan Fraternity of St. Anthony of Padua, Browns Valley, MN, rooted in Gospel Values in the Spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare, have as our mission, community service and the Stewardship of God's Creation, based on prayer and evangelization."

Our Liturgy for May 4 was "The Faces of Mary", a DVD that Tim Wolney, sfo did for St. Anthony's in Minneapolis, quite a while ago. Because it wasn't lengthy, but did impact our meditation about the Mother of Jesus, we "thought" rather than "talked."

Our Minister, Dennis and his wife, Pearl, had to leave early to drive to Rochester where Pearl will be undergoing tests. Our day and meeting were spirit-filled and Franciscan coated. I think we sent them off with not only our love and prayers, but with happy hearts. Please keep our people and our doings in your prayers. We are totally beholden to all of you, brothers and sisters.

Our Pastoral Visitation, being provided by Fr. Pat Foley, TOR, will be May 24, 2008. We will meet at about 3pm and we have prevailed on Fr. Pat to say Mass at 5 p.m. for us and others who would like to come. This is a special event as it isn't a common practice for us to have a Saturday afternoon or evening Mass. We are fortunate that one of our new people, Basil Knebel, is a musician. The event promises to be an extraordinary one.
