St. Anthony of Padua

Franciscan column

May and June typically are months of anticipation for so many. Weddings, graduations from high school and college, reassignment of priests, waiting for our plants to grow and flower. Many experience new beginnings and we look forward to Mark and Sharon having a new beginning with us as they go from candidacy to profession and begin their lives as Secular Franciscans. We will have had our meetings in Buffalo and elected a new regional council. Anticipation can be exciting, nerve wracking and rewarding all at the same time.

Let us remember that God is always with us as we anticipate and go through life's changes. Let us always carry hope in our hearts and appreciate the moments we are experiencing and not be living for the next thing on the calendar. Let us also have patience while we anticipate – especially if we are waiting for answers to our prayers. For some that may be employment or prayers for a strong and enduring marriage. For others that may be for family unity or a return to health or a cure of an illness. May we always be an example of St. Francis and live the Gospel as best we can whether we are encountering what we anticipate or dealing with something we did not.
