Franciscan column

In this age when so many people are leaving or losing their faith, I am
totally uplifted by those who make public declarations of the many ways God
works in their lives. Especially when it is done publicly in front of a large
group of people. Our celebration of Profession is one example of this and
declares to the whole community, "Here I am, Lord, I've come to do your will".
Kathy is one example and she gave me permission to share her SFO "letter of
intent" with you all.

Dear Members:
I was born the weakest of twins, less than three pounds. Death
could have been at any moment. I was nearly a year old before I weighed 9
pounds. God saved me.
I married and had four children, divorced and lost my spouse.
And during that time in my life I experienced many trials and tribulations as
well as much joy. I experienced the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous,
Al-Anon, Koinonia in Sisseton, SD and in starting one in the Bahamas. I have
experienced many spiritual retreats at Blue Cloud Abbey. God saved me.
I have been a caretaker all my life, whether it is people or
animals. I believe I have an understanding of the life style St. Francis and St.
Clare chose. I have lived in monetary poverty and at time in my life, spiritual
poverty, as well. I have a love for animals and life, that gave me the
opportunity to move to the country, after God saved me once again, with an
unexpected liver transplant. God is working miracles in our lives everyday. We
must be willing to listen. God has been the one constant in my life.
God calling me to join his worldwide fraternity in the
Franciscan Order, is one more step in my walk of faith with Christ. God has
given me so much and I need to use that in becoming a better person to help
others walk in their faith with Jesus. Joining the Franciscans is one more way
in becoming more charitable, kinder, and more generous with my time and money. I
want to be a disciple to the people I meet. I must show God's love, the greatest
of all His gifts, to the best of my ability.
Faith is found in prayer and the sacraments. Faith is an
attitude of the heart, given by the Holy Spirit. Thank you for sharing your life
with me.
Submitted in Faith,
Kathy
To God be given all the glory and praise, forever. Amen.
Your Sister in Francis, Clare and Jesus,
Carol, sfo.
